Happy Wanderer was built on a simple but ambitious idea. Bring together a crew from across the country, many with limited sailing experience, and prepare them to compete in one of the world’s toughest offshore races, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart. What followed was more than a campaign. It became a shared experience grounded in teamwork, purpose and connection, where individuals came together to take on something bigger than themselves.
Today, that same spirit continues with a clear focus. Supporting veterans and their families through Wandering Warriors and The Krait Foundation, with a strong emphasis on education, career readiness and connection beyond service. From preparation through to race day, the crew of Happy Wanderer represent what the program stands for. Stepping forward, backing each other, and contributing to a community that continues long after the race is over.

Take a group of individuals from across Australia, many without offshore racing experience, and prepare them to take on the Rolex Sydney to Hobart. What emerged was more than the race itself. It became a platform for connection, shared experience and purpose, bringing people together in a way that reflects the strength of the veteran community.

Today, Happy Wanderer supports veterans and their families through Wandering Warriors and The Krait Foundation, contributing to education pathways, career transition and ongoing connection. While the results on the water continue to grow, it is the people, the shared experience, and the purpose behind it that define its success.
