Yesterday, Wandering Warriors Mick Donaldson, Graham Brammer and Audie Moldre travelled to the Sunshine Coast to join staff and soldiers from the Darwin, Townsville and Enoggera Soldier Recovery Centres for a day of surf lifesaving activities and competition. The day, which was a joint initiative by Ben Roberts-Smith VC MG and Ash Robinson, General Manager of the Alexandra Headlands Surf Club, began with a morning tea meet and greet at the Maroochydore RSL. Then it was off to the beach and in the water for the soldiers. After some good-natured competition, the Enoggera guys took out the inaugural SRC Cup. A table-service lunch capped off the day, a great day for all.
Two things always stand out for the Wandering Warriors on occasions such as this. Firstly, a lot of our servicemen and women still don’t realise how much community support there is out there for them among ordinary Australians.
Secondly, the willingness of organisations and individuals to go out of their way to show their support. Maroochydore RSL and the Alexandra Headlands Surf Club, take a bow! As for our patron Ben, he was there leading from the front as always.
